‘Animals are disappearing at hundreds of times the normal rate, primarily because of shrinking habitats. Their biggest threat: humans.’
Our Brainzites from Grade 5 have been busy this school term studying about endangered species through the Netflix series – Our Planet. Working on the project – Wanted Alive, students identified the endangered species of 4 countries of study using the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the threats to these endangered species.
They attended a Skype in the Classroom session with Dr. Jane Goodall and understood how hard scientists around the world work to learn about different animal species and to protect biodiversity on earth.
Learners then made a call to action to the school to join together to ‘Protect Our Species’, the theme of 2019’s Earth Day Network-India.
These collaborative learning projects are essential not only to develop global perspectives and social consciousness in students but to hone their creative skills, communication skills and collaborative skills.
